No visit to Beirut would be complete without a visit to the Palestinian refugee camps of Sabra and Shatilla. Most people will think of the massacres committed by Israel's proxy forces in 1982 but these refugees have remained here for over half a century. We spent a couple of hours wandering around the two camps meeting various people, often children.
The people are certainly less open and friendly than in the refugee camps of Gaza or the West Bank and I felt more claustraphobic than when I was in Gaza. Which is saying something.
