Beirut to Sidon. Then on to Tyre. A taxi from here to Nabatiyeh, which is an ideal base from which to explore the south of Lebanon. Much of the region was engulfed by the civil wars of the 70s and 80s. The Israeli occupation, which ended recently, will not be easily forgotten. Many of the villages that were occupied or shelled are in a sorry state.
Good fun taxi ride though. Just had to be careful not to tread too far off the road as the whole region is peppered with landmines. The last few photos include some from al-Khiam prison, a horrible place where prisoners were held for decades under the most inhumane conditions. You may have to click to see them all. Hope it's worthwhile.
